In 2018, Jaki Shelton Green was appointed as the ninth poet laureate of North Carolina. Born in rural Orange County, she is the first African American and third woman to hold the position. This short documentary reveals Jaki’s unique approach to the role of poet laureate through community outreach, education, and helping people of all backgrounds discover their own creativity.
