Project Position: Director/Videographer
“Thinking happens in the margins.”
Meet Emmett “Mouse” Davenport, whose identities are as numerous as their tattoos: DJ, podcaster, writer, illustrator, business owner, former model, one-time singer, self-described “queerdo.” This independent documentary follows Emmett’s cultivation of acceptance and relationships through their coffeeshop, Davenport’s Café Diem, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, a small town beginning to feel the strain of gentrification. The film also explores the shifting music and art landscape of the NC Triangle through Emmett’s experience hosting goth parties in the 2000s, as well as the creation of their signature steampunk radio show, The Clockwork Cabaret. More than just one person’s story, this film provides a glimpse at the challenges of authentic self-expression and living your principles in a world increasingly hostile to both. Despite these challenges, it also shows how this commitment to personal integrity can serve and benefit an entire community.
